Billie Black has been on my radar for quite some time now but this is by far her most impressive output. ‘I Don’t Need Another Lover’ and ‘I Waited For You’ have already been rinsed by bloggers but two new gems ‘Do You Really’ and ‘Black & White’ make EP 000100 one of the most stunning debut EP’s by any soul/r&b artist this year. Now that’s some statement, right?
It’s hardly a surprise. She’s part of a roster that includes the incredible Nao, Mura Masa and Moko – all artists that are cut from the same albeit diverse cloth. This EP is as cohesive as you are going to find and it knocks Banks’ Goddess, Lorde’s Pure Heroin and Cooly G’s Wait Til’ Tonight out of the proverbial park. Granted, it’s no full-length but I guess that’s a testament to the strength of this 4-track EP. You’ll not hear me speak so highly of many artists, so take this as a sign to keep tabs on the 19 year old Londoner’s future.
