People who listened to Fink’s previous studio album “Perfect Darkness”, will immediately recognise the sound of the Bristol based trio. Beautiful, rhythmical acoustic guitars with bare, but calming vocals are the essence of the music they’ve been making for more than a decade now. While the trio’s previous songs used to have that rather thoughtful, melancholic feel to it, the new Single Looking Too Closely bursts with energy.
Fink, aka Finian Paul Greenall, has now incorporated a full drum kit with splashing cymbals, cooperating with the rather held back sound of the cajon. Also the use of a piano together with loads of pads adds so much feeling and space to the mix that emphasises that certain feeling that Greenall’s tracks convey, which can not really be put into words. It is rare to find songs that you can really connect with nowadays, but this song hits hard from the very first chord. It is incredible how somebody can be around the music business for so long, and still have this much passion and energy to put into a very fresh and original piece of music.
Fink is back, and if this song is capable of representing the new album Hard Believer , then we’ll have just one more reason to celebrate 4th July.
