Sometimes a records lyrics will write a review for me – “It’s like she’s born for breaking, her life’s a risk worth taking” – this may not be about Elsie, but it might as well be. The London based singer and songwriter verges on a musical kismet with her immersive, often oblique brand of electronic pop.
It’s that seemingly effortless reclamation of grunge that strengthens her almost skeletal approach to pop music. ‘Wild One’ is another vista-widening record anchored between an overt sense of spaciousness and her open-ended sonic, guitar embedded explorations. Ludicrously insistent vocal hooks and a hearted melody form a shadowy unknowability within ‘Wild One’ – the type of trait that immediately leaves you wanting to hear more, frantically clicking every respective “Follow” and “Like” button in sight.
