The original and this cover are absolute opposites. You’ve been warned. Paul Conrad has managed to do such a catchy, genre bending cover that it’ll get you completely hooked.
This cover literally turns the original upside down. Where the lyrics are being rapped, here they are being sung in a wonderfully dark and brooding voice. It’s hypnotic and haunting. Having stumbled across this track via Indieshuffle, I could not agree more that, if anything, there is a strong resemblance to Lana Del Rey here. The style is not only sung in a similar, but the creation of a twisted atmosphere is akin to her typical Dark-Pop. Furthermore, the spacing allows the song to breathe so it’s never overwhelming, a true show of control and balance throughout.
Overall, this is such a cinematic song that I could not help, but want to share it. It sounds as though it’s been carefully handcrafted and the vintage feel of it reminds me of black and white televisions, especially at the end when the song just seems to be switched off. Stunning.
