There aren’t many songs out there that immediately I can connect with. Something about Juan Cristobal’s latest release, ‘You, My Morning Therapy’, hits the soul so majestic – it’s hard to explain. Those who know me personally will know that I am a huge sucker for R&B guitar-riffs, and anything that can be used as a bedroom jam. Juan Cristobal’s guitar playing is smooth, enticing, and creates lush atmospheres that float effortlessly through the air. Juan Cristobal’s drum selection compliment the track, syncing the laid-back feel with a soft swing that is bound to make any listener head nod. Much like ESTA and other Hip-Hop/R&B producers, Juan Cristobal’s work is similar to a contemporary J Dilla, DJ Premier or Pete Rock. However, Juan Cristobal managed to approach this instrumental with a such a resounding soulful-feel, that it creates dream-like vibes from the moment you press play. Easily re-playable, and perfect to include in a chill/downtempo mix.
I have been following Juan Cristobal for sometime now on Soundcloud, and it’s been amazing to see the progression throughout his musical career. Take a journey through his immense catalogue and you’ll find a little slice of heaven on Soundcloud. From breathtaking original instrumentals like “Under The Sheets” to remixes of the likes of ESTA and Aliyah – there’s no stopping this talented musician. I am very excited for Juan Cristobal’s upcoming EP. There is no official release date and he has not announced a title, but it will be forthcoming on Cosmonostro, a French label that was once apart of the Soulection family – so happy to see Juan Cristobal making moves.
With ‘You, My Morning Therapy’, Juan Cristobal weaves beautiful guitar melodies, a soft piano and casual drums to analogize the emotion of falling in love.
