So, who are these Fever Kids anyway? Well, I am glad you asked! Suffice to say that they are a musical duo hailing from Athens, Greece. First time they met musically was around 2011 in a home recording studio. Doing it DIY like most of the bands or artists these days; or in the beginning for that matter.
‘Holding Grass‘ is their first official release and between you and me, simply a treat. The elements of this solid arrangement are a dead give away, and set the pace for glory. A steady drum groove layer that expands throughout the track and a driving bass-line to bind everything together. Spoiler: This is where you can almost assure your self that you are listening to a disco classic.
Half a minute in the mix, we hear Stella’s vocal for the first time. Deeper than usual female vocals but as subtle and energetic at the same time. About a minute later, there are some more elements emerging. A somewhat almost hypnotic pad, rhodes (?) and the first synths. Boom, breakdown, build-up and everything falls in place!
Last but not least, some serious and noteworthy job in the lyrics.
“Give me a hit / give me the enemy bite / I won’t run / I won’t ask you why / I need you close / oh no its never enough / I need a dose / I need to hear you laugh”
The kids or Stella and Alex came up with this very characteristic and oscillating sound, that shifts between pop, electro while including (some very well hidden) disco elements.
Is this a late afternoon treat or what?
